Phoebe Lawson was betrayed by her boyfriend Kieran Underwood and brought into a world of sex-trafficking and other illegal activities. When she is rescued she needs to try and find the strength to overcome all the blackness around her and find a way to regain the power she lost.
Donovan Jeffries is the District Attorney who has been assigned to Phoebe's case. He is also a DOM at a local BDSM club but has had his heart broken by a betrayal that has left him avoiding a serious commitment since then.
As Phobe and Donovan both try to heal their hearts they are both attracted to the other and tread a fine line. Can Phoebe overcome her past demons to let Donovan kiss her without panicking and will Donovan allow Phoebe into his heart with a chance he could lose her?
With a danger out there will Phoebe and Donovan be able to heal together before it's too late?
This was a great story about trying to pick the pieces up of your life after is has been shattered and violated. Phoebe went through hell at the expense of someone she thought loved her. Her trust was gone and she had been used and completely violated. Now she had to try and pick up what was left of herself and find a way to move on but her fear was still so great.
Phoebe cared a lot about Donovan but she was still so uneasy about any physical contact. Yet she really wanted to try and when she learned about what he was into she tried to turn into what he wanted.
Donovan cared so much about Phoebe but was upset with himself every time she had a panic attack. He also knew that he had to try and keep things professional as much as possible as he was still trying to protect her from what was out there.
The ending was a huge twist for me that part of me was expecting but never knew how it was coming. I loved the way the author wrote the end and gave the reader that sense of satisfaction that they had been after!
Great read!
