I've lived in the darkness for so long.
No life. No choice.

The Devil owned me, body and soul - but not my heart. It was the only part of me which could never be claimed...

...or so I thought.
Viktor weaved his way into my heart and imprinted on my soul. He made it clear he was there to stay. Even when the darkness blinded us, he never left my side.

What we share was sweet, untamed and wild.
But it was forbidden, dangerous and the outcome would only be painful.

A game is being played. The arena is a bloodbath, and the Game Masters are brutal. In the end, only one will survive.

Only one King will be left standing.

EXCERPT

She gasped in agony when he bit down again. Her body seized up and tears spilled down her cheeks. The bottle started to crack in my hands, the glass fragile under the pressure of my hold.

When he pulled away, there was a red bruise there and she was bleeding.  Motherfucker

“Have a good night.” He chuckled.

I watched him walk away.  The door closed behind him.

I counted in my head.
Ten seconds.

I threw the bottle into the wall and watched it crash, the pieces flying around the room.

I turned to face Valerie.
Our eyes met.
She inhaled.
I exhaled.
We breathed.

I wanted to reach for her… I wanted to hold her.

She stared at me, silent…her eyes hazy and…

My sweet beautiful swan was broken.

My review of Stealing Vengeance by Kaylea Cross

Megan was transformed by the government into a trained operative in the secret group called Valkyrie. But now someone is eliminating Valkyrie agents and it is up to Megan along with her former instructor Tyler Bergstrom and fellow agent Trinity Durant to figure out who is after them.

As Tyler and Megan begin to get closer to each other they must stay one step ahead of the killer but surprises keep coming. When they track down the killer they discover they have more questions to ask about the past and why they were created.

Can they get the answers in time?

This is a super interesting book and I am definitely looking forward to more in this series.

I liked Megan and how she loved the simple life while staying with her mentor Marcus at his place. I felt bad when she was thrust into trying to find a killer as it was obvious there was some chemistry between herself and Tyler.

There were so many surprises and twists and turns in this book and it was definitely full of action and very intriguing!

Without giving anything away I was so happy with what was going on with Tyler and Megan although I completely understood why Tyler was very uncertain about Megan putting her trust into a certain character.

I love that Marcus opened up Laidlaw Hall for Megan, Trinity and Tyler to use with whomever else they have for the series to take off!

The Bratva’s Bride by Jane Henry

Bratva life is simple:

You steal from the brotherhood, you pay with your life.

But the thief is a woman, and she’s too beautiful to die.

My wedding band will be her collar.

Our vows will be her shackles.

She will be my captive bride.

“What?” she asks, frowning. I don’t like her tone of voice and wonder what’s gotten into her. “You know I know some Russian,” she says. “Don’t you? Tell him I’m ready.”

She grows too free with her speech.

“She’ll be ready,” I tell them, though my gaze is fixed on her.

“I think you should nail Amronov’s wife,” Vladak tells me with a smirk. “And she’ll make sure you get what you need.” Calina tenses.

I scowl at him, and no one laughs. Fucking the Prime Minister’s wife is a good way of getting assassinated.

“Why not?” Filip asks. Maksym sits with his arms crossed, and says nothing. He was the one that alerted me to the fact that Amaranov’s wife asked for me, but he doesn’t approve of this plan. I don’t like it either. There’s something unsettling about it.

I watch Calina’s knuckles whiten when she fists them in her lap.

She heard the other men suggesting I sleep with Amronov’s wife and she doesn’t like it.

“I have better means of getting what I want,” I tell them and Calina has the gall to snort derisively.

“Perhaps she isn’t sufficiently trained,” I tell them, a clear warning to her.

She lifts her face and juts out her chin. “Sufficiently trained?” she snaps.

The room grows quiet. My men expect her to obey me, and she’s anything but obedient right now.

“Enough, Calina,” I warn, but she doesn’t heed my admonition.

“I don’t know,” she says, her voice rising. “Maybe you need to snap a metal collar around my neck. Take me for a walk so I can pee in your garden. Perhaps if you—”

But she doesn’t get any further. When I rise from my chair, panic flits across her features and she bites her lip. She knows she’s in trouble. She knows she’s crossed a line. What she doesn’t know is how badly I want to punish her with an audience. How my cock aches with the knowledge of what she’s pushed me to do. It seems last night’s lesson didn’t make the impact it should have. I shouldn’t have given her the attention afterward. Or perhaps she simply needs a further demonstration.

I take her firmly by the arm, yank her to standing, and haul her bodily over the table while my men watch in stoic silence. Papers flutter to the floor. No one says a word. None are amused. They know what’s at stake.

None even flinch when I slam my palm across her ass. They’re an audience of soldiers who would lose respect for me if I didn’t do just this. If I didn’t teach her a lesson in obedience for all to see. If I’ve taught them well, any one of them would do what I have to do now.

“Demyan,” she protests. “Please! I’m sorry,” But I ignore her complaints and push her flat across the table with a firm palm on her lower back. I crook a finger to Maksym, since he’s the largest, strongest man in our company.

With a scowl, he rises. Though Maksym has a tender spot, he knows what’s on the line. He’d be the first one to tell me to punish her, so when I give my order he doesn’t flinch.

“Hold her down,” I instruct.

Blurb

Just five months ago, Valentine O'Dell started working at a very special kind of nightclub – one where you can dance the night away, or live out your greatest fantasy. She's learned to lose herself to her nights, forgetting all her day time woes as she charms every man she meets. It's easy enough to do when she doesn't let her feelings get involved.

Then Ari Sharapova walks in and changes everything.

Working for his father's law firm has left Ari with very little control over his life, so when he sees Valentine for the first time, he sees a girl who is desperate for someone to take care of her. To take over her. So what he can't get for himself in the day time, he'll simply take for himself at night. But when power struggles lead to real feelings, who's actually controlling whom?

Some relationships are better left in the dark.

Excerpt

When Valentine got to the ladies room, she all but fell through the door. A bathroom attendant jumped out of her chair, asking if she was alright.
“I'm fine,” she groaned. “Just bumped into a blonde nightmare.”
“Oh,” the attendant laughed. “One of those, huh?”
“Rich people are the worst,” Val growled, moving to lean against a sink. “You know? They just think they can talk to you however they want. Screw them.”
“I couldn't agree more.”
She was ready to go off on another tangent, but then the door burst open once again. Ari strode into the room, startling both of them.
“Sir, this is the -” the attendant started.
Leave,” he ordered her, though his eyes never left Valentine's.
The attendant looked unsure for a moment. Val rolled her eyes, but she eventually nodded her head, signaling that it was okay. The attendant nodded back, then demurely left the room.
“A little dramatic,” Val said once the door had shut.
“What the fuck do you think you're doing?” he demanded.
She belatedly realized he was angry. Ari was very, very angry. She glanced around the room.
“Well, I was gonna pee – I thought this was the best place to do it,” she tried to joke. His glare grew even more severe and he loomed over her.
“What are you doing here? At this restaurant? With that piece of shit out there?” he clarified. Her jaw dropped.
“Uh, excuse me, I think you'll find that your ex is the only piece of shit here,” she informed him. “You should've told her not to come where she isn't wanted.”
“Don't you ever tell me what to do. Now explain yourself.”
Explain myself?” Valentine laughed loudly and stepped away from the sink, not wanting him to have the power position of leaning over her. “Excuse me, but I'm not your girlfriend. I don't have to explain anything to you.”
“No, you're my property, and as such there are rules you must abide by,” he growled. “Rules we both agreed upon.”
So much of what he'd just said was messed up, but she decided to save most of it for later and tackle what exactly it was that had him so pissed off right now.
“That's why you're upset?” she asked. “Because of the guy I'm having dinner with? Because of Ralph?
“I'm upset because you're breaking the rules. I paid a lot of money for you – I won't tolerate insubordination.”
“You paid a lot of money for my time,” Val corrected him. “So screw you, Ari, I'm not breaking shit.”
“I told you in the beginning,” he started. “No other 'clients' – no picking anyone else up at your club. And I don't believe for one second you met Ralph out there on Tinder, or at the laundromat, or at school, or wherever, so he must be a client. What the fuck.
Oh my god, he's jealous. Jeez, you fuck a guy a couple times and suddenly he thinks he owns you.
Yet still, somewhere deep down in her chest, her heart began to beat faster.
“Yes, he's a client,” Val snapped. “But I didn't break any rules. I agreed to a dinner date with him before I met you, it's been set up for weeks now, I'm just fulfilling a deal. My world doesn't revolve around you, Ari.”
“It had better fucking start to.”
“Are you kidding?” she asked. “You're mad? How do you think I feel, seeing you here with friends and not being able to acknowledge you, and then having your evil ex talk to me like that, like she's still with you?”
“Deal with it – you knew what you were signing up for.”
Val was pretty sure steam was about to shoot out of her ears.
“I signed up to give you exclusive rights to my time,” she growled. “Not to be verbally abused by your bitchy ex-girlfriend, and not to be treated like some contractually obligated whore.”
“If the contract fits.”
Valentine slapped him before she could stop herself, shocking both of them.
“Don't you ever talk to me like that again!” she hissed. Ari stared down at her, his blue eyes ablaze with anger, that errant lock of hair falling across his forehead once again.
“I'll talk to you however I want. Don't ever fucking hit me again.”
She let out a frustrated shriek, then she slapped him again before pounding her hands against his chest. He struggled to grab hold of her arms, shoving her across the room and slamming her up against the wall by the door. He pinned her wrists near her head, then they glared at each other, both their chests heaving, both their hearts raging.
He's the worst.
She was suddenly kissing him. Or he was kissing her. It was impossible to tell – they were no longer two separate entities. He let go of her wrists and she immediately started clawing at the front of his blazer, trying to pull it apart. His left hand went around her throat, gently squeezing, while his right hand went to her exposed thigh, rubbing the outside of it.
“This dress,” Ari gasped against her. “Jesus, when I saw it …”
“When I put it on tonight, I thought of you,” Valentine spoke quickly, finally undoing the button and pushing her hands inside his jacket.
I want to fucking rip it off of you.
“God, yes, I want that, too,” she groaned, dragging her nails down his back, wishing her hands were against his skin.
Then his tongue was back between her lips, just as aggressive as always. He didn't just take a taste when he kissed – Ari made a whole meal of her mouth, and she loved being devoured.

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

“Hey, Mia Hamm,’’ a deep rumbling voice called from above me.
I turned in the direction of the voice. The handsome man I saw yesterday playing football with his son was calling to me from the second-floor balcony.
“Who?”
“Mia Hamm. The famous soccer player.”
“I know who Mia Hamm is. I’m not her, and you’re in Barbados where we call it football.”
“Well, I don’t know your name. Why don’t you tell me what it is so I know what to call you and then you can tell me where you learned to play football like that.”
“I think you’ll find that most people who grew up in the Caribbean can pass a football with some skill. I’m not special.”
“I don’t know if I agree with that.” He grinned, and I felt myself flush. “And you still haven’t told me your name.”
“Where are your wife and son?” I asked, deciding to nip this little game in the bud.
His brow furrowed in confusion before realization hit.
“What? No. She is not my wife and Philip is not my son.”
Something that felt suspiciously like hope caused my heart to flutter at his words, but he was probably lying.
“That little boy looked exactly like you.”
“Hey, I’m not saying he’s not a good looking kid.” His grin returned, and so did my flush. “He’s just not my kid.”
“Well, his mother seemed interested. Why don’t talk to her about soccer?”
“I’m not interested in his mother.” He gave me a pointed look, his grin still firmly in place.
My stupid heart fluttered again.
“I’m already taken,” he said.
The fluttering stopped.
“But the problem is, she won’t tell me her name.” He tucked his bottom lip between his teeth, still grinning.
And the fluttering returned. A deep breath helped me calm myself and regain focus before I pressed the elevator button again, knowing that it would do nothing to make the elevator come faster.
I glared at him and rolled my eyes. He was leaning over his balcony waiting for an answer.
“No,” I said finally.
“No, what?” he asked.
“Whatever you want. Whatever you think this is. The answer is no.”
“It can be whatever you want it to be.” That line would’ve been incredibly sleazy from anyone else, but he made it sound so sincere and almost convincing that it was clear I needed to keep my distance from him, no matter how charming he was and no matter how long it had been since I felt a man’s hands on my body.
“Good,” I said. Mercifully, the elevator arrived at that moment, and I stepped inside. “Nothing it is.”
