At the beginning of this new year it is a time to reflect on the past year and think about everything we have been through.
This year has definitely been a challenging one. We were supposed to move into our brand new townhouse in February and had been packing and preparing for it when we received notice that it was delayed until August. We had food that was packed up and so many other things but now we had to wait which was difficult. We are so grateful to have spent our first Christmas in our new house but we still have boxes to unpack which we will eventually get to!
We lost my step-dad this year which was difficult for the kids and I but we are so happy that he was able to end his suffering through Dying With Dignity. He had been sick and deteriorating for the past 10 years or so and it got to the end when he could barely talk and was living in a hospital bed. It was a very hard time for the three of us but we got through it together.
Then a friend of mine committed suicide and it completely through me for a loop. She is someone I have known for around 20 years and I was not expecting it. I knew she struggled as did several members of her family but I thought she had been doing so much better lately. We worked together and I felt helpless. I have struggled myself but I was lucky to have people around me that I was able to reach out to and I was just so sorry that she never reached out to any of us.
Through all of that I managed to get behind on my reviews but I am so grateful for the understanding and patience of the book community who told me to take care of myself and that the books would always be there. I have managed to just catch up now but I know I don't want to feel so behind again!
But even though there were some challenges we also had some amazing times as well!
The kids are doing incredible in their sports and we went to Palm Springs last January for both kids to play field lacrosse and will be heading back in a couple of weeks for my daughter to play again.
The kids are both playing hockey as well and also box lacrosse. Mikaela is also now in high school so she has played field hockey and is currently playing basketball so we are always going somewhere!
In the new year I have decreased the amount of books I will be reviewing to a manageable number (around 5 a week) as with activities every single day I just can't keep up to what I was doing (or trying to)!
I will continue to do as much promo and excerpts as I can and I look forward to working with more authors and companies spreading the love of books!!
Thanks so much for your continued support and I can't wait for another amazing year!!
Cheers,
Rebecca
