My review of Calculated Risk by Marie James

Quinton Lake is the "fixer" for Blackbridge Security and generally deals with publicity so the last thing he wants to do is teach 14 women how to properly shoot a gun. Yet the moment he sees one of the women he finds himself intrigued although their first meeting does not end well.

Hayden Prescott is an accountant and stays as far away from trouble as she can but when her house is broken into she begins to struggle with feeling safe and doesn't sleep well. When she is picked to join up in an exclusive gun training session she has no desire to attend unless her best friend Parker can also go.

There is a strong connection between Quinton and Hayden but Hayden is struggling with trusting anyone and Quinton is soon very possessive.

Can Quinton find out who is behind the break in at Hayden's and will Hayden ever be comfortable with the idea of firing a gun?

This is another great book in the series and I really enjoy these characters in every book the author has written.

I really liked Quinton right from the beginning of the book as he is no-nonsense and although he had no desire to teach the class he still did and I really enjoyed him complaining. I love the dynamic between all of the men of Blackbridge and how they truly are a family. Quinton appears a lot more serious than some of the others but at the same time there is another side of him which we got to see more and more through the book.

Hayden was a woman that was shaken to the core and lost so much happiness after the break in at her place. I had two ideas in mind about who could be responsible and I was right with one. It was sad to see how shaken she was and how much it affected her life. Her friendship with Parker seemed interesting to me but I think that is only because we only know the Hayden since her home was broken into.

There was immediate attraction between Quinton and Hayden but both were somewhat nervous about acting on it although they began to try and spend more and more time together. There were things holding each of them back and I knew they had to work through them before anything would really happen.

I can't imagine what Hayden thought when Quinton showed up telling her she needed to leave. The scene where Quinton needed to "borrow" something from Wren made me laugh so hard!

There were two things towards the end of the book that made me question things and one definitely was how Parker knew some things although I knew in part where it was coming from. The other was I knew something was going to happen when Hayden was needed somewhere.

The very end made me super happy and I am definitely curious to see what's happening next with Jude and Parker!

4 Stars
