Alta "Birdie" Johnson is a Park Ranger who has panic attacks after an event from the past that has left her a shell of the woman she once was. When women begin to go missing from the park she works in she vows not to let her past get in the way of her job, no matter how difficult it is.
Sergeant Cas Mathews and FBI Agent Chandler Peters are brought in to assist with the case and try and discover if this serial kidnapper is linked to one from a previous park. Cas can't deny his attraction to Alta but he knows he has to keep it professional as he is also battling demons from his own past.
As Alta, Cas and Chandler begin to get closer to the serial kidnapper, the kidnapper has shown to have a new target and the links to Erin's own past become eerily similar. Can Cas keep his feelings for Alta under control or will he do whatever it takes to keep her safe?
This was such a good book and I definitely think this is an author I will be grabbing as much as I can!!
I thought Alta was such a great character and she had gone through so much in the past and she really struggled to get over everything. I loved her dog Benny and how he was really there for her and was just a safety net for Alta when she struggled. I really liked her friendship with John and Sarah although I could tell John wanted her as more than a friend even though she didn't want more.
I loved Cas and how he had his own demons and never trusted himself around Alta due to what happened to him in the past. I hated how much responsibility he took for a certain past event but I loved that Chandler knew the type of guy he really was and wanted him on the mission with him. Cas was pure alpha once he realized he wanted Erin but he struggled with whether he was the right guy for her but he certainly knew that John wasn't it.
The chemistry between Cas and Alta was intense and you could tell how much they wanted each other but they had some roadblocks in front of them. Yet they had each others backs in more than one occasion and I loved when they finally gave in.
There were so many twists and turns and just when you think you have a handle on things something happens that makes you doubt you're train of thought. I became so involved in the story and I was loving it!
The end was so intense and I knew Cas would get there but I didn't know how long it was going to take and how everything would go down!!
I truly hope that Chandler gets his own book as I loved him and I hope we get more of Alta and Cas in it!!
