My review of Salt by Mara White

Santiago "Tiago" Alcazar was from the wrong side of town. He lived with his grandma since his dad was in jail and his mom was who knows where strung out on drugs. He had barely left his neighborhood until he went with a group of kids to a horse farm where he met the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.

Salana Livingston was once a competitive horseback rider and the junior champion of Connecticut. She is a good girl and does whatever her parents expect of her but when she meets Tiago she knows there is something different about him.

As Salana and Tiago's lives cross several times there is something that brings them together but there are also so many differences in their lives that drives them apart. Can they overcome everything society has set up against them to figure out a way to find happiness?

This was a great book about overcoming obstacles and finding our true place.

Tiago had a rough life for sure and I loved his relationship with his grandma. She was everything to him and he did what he could to provide for the two of them. Unfortunately that got him involved in some illegal activities but Tiago wanted something better for himself, especially after he meets Salana.

Salana was such an interesting character as she wanted to live her own life but she still was following what her parents expected of her. She found herself in relationships that her parents wanted her in but she wanted a life of freedom where she could do what she wanted.

I was fascinated by the relationship between Salana and Taigo and how they would find themselves in each other's lives at certain points when they needed the other. I was somewhat mad at Salana for dropping Tiago after he was there for her after Switzerland.

I was so happy when things started working out between Salana and Tiago but I felt bad when he was struggling to find a job. I was happy for Salana and her new job but I hated what she did to Tiago during that process and her reasoning behind it.

My heart shattered near the end for what Tiago had to go through on his own with his grandma but I was very happy for how the author put it back together.

Such a great read and I look forward to more from the author!
