My review of Miss Demeanor Suspense Series

P.I. I Love You by Joanne Jaytanie

River Nightingale has had it with being a police officer in her small town of Bear Creek when she is once again overlooked for a promotion. She and 3 of her friends in similar situations decide to open a business in Seattle called Miss Demeanor Private Detective Agency.

River's first job is to look into the deaths of the parents of Blake Baxter as he believes their deaths were not accidental.

Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin is not used to having his cases reopened but River may be onto something.

Will River and Gage be able to work together to solve the truth or will the lack of trust between the two prevent them from working together?

This was a great book that hopefully be a series! I loved the relationship between River and Gage and that even though it was a short story it didn't feel rushed or pushed along. I loved that all the girls supported each other even though there was limited interaction between them all, they were always there when needed.

Bare by Angela Ford

This book is part of the Miss Demeanor PI series and so far I am loving this series! It is fun to see women taking charge of their lives after being unsatisfied with the lack of promotions they are given working in various police forces.

This book centers on Shay Brooks, who was a police officer in the small town of Connell with no chance of being promoted. Shay is asked by Renee Mills to try and save her daughter, Beth, who has begun working at BARE - Business Associates Reserved Establishment. Renee believes that Beth is dating Rick, the owner, who has got her hooked on drugs and stripping at his club.

Yet, when Shay is hired to work in the club she doesn't see what Renee does but knows that something big is definitely going on. Then there is her attraction to the bartender, Dante Pierce, who may have secrets of his won.

This book really kept me on my toes with what was going to happen next as I was honestly surprised at how things were going and what was happening! I loved how everything tied together and was definitely engaged through the whole read!

Such a great series so far and I can't wait to read the next two!

Choreographed Crime by Jackie Marilla

This is the third book in the Miss Demeanor Suspense Series and I am really enjoying to get to know the women in this detective series.

Maile Kuhiwinui is having trouble settling into Seattle after just moving from Hawaii. She finds she is homesick and is trouble finding cases but all of that is just about to change.

Maile finds herself no longer missing Hawaiian food after finding a food truck run by Hawaiian Kalama Haleamau. Then she gets herself a case involving the supposed suicide of ballet dancer Floriano Garcia.

As Maile investigates more she finds her own personal life with Kalama being intertwined into the case and she realizes she may need to ask the girls for some help. Will Maile find the truth about Floriano's death before her own life is on the line?

I really enjoyed this story as it touched on the trouble Maile was having settling into Seattle and that moves are not always easy. This book really made Maile easy to relate to and you really want her to succeed with her case and her personal life!

Great story and such a great series!

My review of That Night by J.S. Cooper and Helen Cooper

This book has definitely left me wanting the next story!

Liv Taylor decides to live on the dangerous side when her best friend Alice offers her $100 to hook up with someone at the wedding they are attending. When she meets a mysterious man she can't say no and no names are exchanged.

When all of a sudden she sees him again she realizes that this could be a huge mistake with really bad consequences.

I really liked Liz in that she really stepped out of her comfort zone and did something she has never done before. I loved the premise of the wedding and why her and Alice had no regrets. I can't believe how things turned out at the end of the book and I really want to read the next book. My heart really believes that Liv deserves to be happy!

He is a very bad man. There is nothing good about him…
Unless you count the things he does to me between the sheets. Those are good, very good.
Everything else about him is bad to the core.
One drunken night of bone-melting sex should have been the end of it—especially since I woke up alone.
Until he shows up at my door complete with handcuffs. I hate him for what he’s doing. Too bad my body can’t resist him.

She has a body that makes men beg. I had to have her.
I didn’t realize getting my dick wet inside of her would be a drug---one I’d crave over and over.
Katie’s past brings me to her door. I should walk away. I can’t.
My President asked me to do this job and technically, I am. I’m doing her against the wall, in the shower, on the counter, the table and occasionally even the bed.
The heat between us is intense and white-hot like an open flame.
I can’t walk away, even for my President, the man I swore to follow into hell.
I warned her I am no one’s happily ever after. I’m too dark.
I’m more of a nightmare.
She chose to play with fire. Hell, I did too.
It’s too late, now we’ll both be BURNED

My review of Through Love and Hate by Jennifer Felton

Megan Williamson's best friend Anya Spanzer has terminal cancer and there's isn't much time left for her.  Megan would do anything to save Anya's life so that the she can watch her daughter grow up. It turns out the someone is willing to help Megan make that choice and allows Megan to make a deal.

But life isn't that simple and suddenly Megan finds herself extremely attracted to Dr.Jeremiah Carson and the feeling is mutual. Suddenly this deal doesn't seem like a good one after all.

I really liked Megan's determination to protect Anya so that she can have a life with her family, where as Megan doesn't feel like her life is worth as much. That being said it is somewhat sad that Megan feels her life is worth less.

Dr.Carson was a bit of an enigma for me in that part of me wanted to like him and the other part hated him. Which ultimately means a great character creation from the author.

I found in this book I liked Maya less than I did in Through Life & Death, but again I believe that the author did this intentionally. I look forward to more books in this series!

My review of Through Life and Death by Jennifer Felton

This book is extremely intriguing and I am definitely looking forward to reading more in the series.

In England 1885, Sebastian Helms, is an Enforcer who carries out death sentences for The Council. The Council was created by his twin sister Maya to keep demons in line and not create havoc for humans.

Yet Sebastian and Maya may have more trouble on their hands than they could have imagined as things are happening that shouldn't be.

I am really intrigued by the way the series is headed and I can't wait to see where the series heads. I love that Sebastian and Maya are trying to do good and I think their characters are so intriguing. I really like that they still have a relationship with their dad and I am looking forward to learning more about him!

My review of Unchained Love by Savannah Hill

Royal Gabriel is sickened by her family's sick customs towards bloodlings and others they consider less than themselves. Her father Charles has captured the alpha of the pack and plans on making him into a prize fighter. What Royal can't control is her attraction to "X".

Maddox, "X", is taken by Charles but will not give up trying to escape from Charles and will use Royal to do so but doesn't realize how much will he care about her.

But there is so much working against the two of them and her family is much more dark than Royal ever thought they could be.

I love the chemistry between Royal and Maddox! It is clear how much they both genuinely care but they have a lot to face together - including her family and his as well.

This is the first time I have read a book by the author and it certainly won't be my last!

My review of Set Aside by Kelly Collins

The second book in the Second Chances Series is another absolutely great read! I am loving this series and the women and men found in these books!

Holly McGrath has just gotten out of prison and is pretty sure her "fiance" Matt has moved on in the two years she was gone. With Mickey's help she is able to find a place to stay out at the ranch and is ready to get her nursing license and move on from Matt and Carla, her "friend".

Keagan McKinley has never believed in love at first sight or any of those feelings his brother Kerrick felt towards Mickey but all of that changes the moment he meets Holly.

Holly and Keagan must discover if what they feel is real and if Holly can move on from the past and be happy with what she is given and not what she has lost.

I love Holly and I can't imagine the range of emotions she went through with going to prison and with what she lost with her mom. Yet, beneath it all she is strong and must focus on the positives in order to be happy with her life.  I love the friendship that she and Mickey have and how they are really able to support each other with everything they have gone through.

Keagan is another awesome brother. These boys rock and I love learning more about them and their families. I love the support he provides Holly and how he is there for her in any way he can.

I can't wait for the next book in this series!

My review of Heist by Casey Clipper

Detective Jason Campbell is after a mysterious woman who has been robbing jewelry stores for around two years and who has not given them any clues to who she is or how she leaves no traces behind. He and his fellow detectives have worked many hours and know if they don't solve it soon the case will be turned over to the FBI.

Hannah Lakely is doing what she can to survive and pay off her parents continuous gambling and drugs debts. She has been found countless times by the men her parents owe and the cycle never seems to stop. Until now.

I absolutely love Hannah's character and her feisty personality. She has such a sad and traumatic past that it is no wonder she has been trying to get away from it. I love her relationship with Roy and how much she genuinely cares for him.

Jason is great but obviously head over heels in love which totally affects his judgment but true love can not easily be given away!

I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Synopsis

From the author of the international bestselling The Love Series, Contemporary Romance Author Casey Clipper, comes a new contemporary romance series:

Heist (The Men of Law)

Jason Campbell and his team are on a mission—to find the jewelry thief that has hit every store in their town. They have zero leads. Their cagey burglar uses equipment and uncanny skills to prevent the detectives from gaining ground in the case that has dragged on far too long. Jasonʼs endless hours working on this case are taking a toll. He has no life outside of his job. His nights are spent alone in a cold bed with dreams of a faceless bandit haunting him. Yes, their suspect is a woman bent on toying with law enforcement.

Hannah Lakely is doing whatever it takes to survive. After escaping from the men who her parents owe money, she vows never to be put in a vulnerable position to be injured again. Those men favor breaking bones, specifically hers. Hannah does what is necessary for a woman with no high school diploma, no college education, no skill set, and in need of a large sum of money immediately to pay off her parentsʼ loan. A world of crime is an empty life with no one to count on except for her only friend, who is also her conspirator. Sheʼs alone in the world, always looking over her shoulder for the mob or law enforcement, afraid of the day that either catches up with her.

Jasonʼs life of non-committed relationships is one that leaves him lonely at times, but he accepts that drawback after watching two of his LEO brothers go through hell in their marriages. Why does he need that hassle? Itʼs difficult enough to find a good woman, let alone one who can tolerate being in a relationship with a detective. A law enforcement career can test even the best of couples. But Jasonʼs world is turned upside down when he literally runs into a red-haired spitfire. Her fiery attitude amuses him. Smitten with the entrancing woman, he decides to pursue.

Hannah canʼt believe that sheʼs attracted the attention of law enforcement in a different manner than she ever expected. She knows she shouldnʼt entertain the officerʼs blatant attraction, but Jason wonʼt take no for an answer. When she relents, deciding to cave to the determined detective, she certainly never expects to connect to him on a physical and emotional level.

Jasonʼs personal life is settling into place. Hannahʼs world is crumbling around her as she finds herself falling for a man who could put her in jail for a very long time, if he finds out her secret. Jason admits he may be more than just entranced with this gorgeous woman. Hannahʼs desperate and attempts to walk away from the life sheʼs led, until the mob catches up to her. Again.

What happens when Hannah tries to rid herself of the men who threaten her life by heisting the most secure jewelry store sheʼs ever attempted? What happens to the couple if Jason and his unit figure out who their thief really is? What happens when Jason questions everything he thought he knew, including his career? And what happens when Hannahʼs life is put in danger because of decisions made by Jason and his team?

*This is not a cliffhanger series. Each novel in the series can be read as a standalone.

My review of Trusting Bull by Jordan Marie

OMG - Wow!!! This book had me hooked from the first moment and never let me down through out!

When Dorian "Bull" Kane ends up in the hospital for STD's and being high, he never thought he would meet the woman of his dreams, or that she may not want him. Dr.Skye Walker is attracted to Bull but has no interest in a man in a world with STD's and drugs so she lets him know she is not interested. Yet Bull comes back and has claeaned up his attitude and lets Skye know that he won't give up.

The problem is that he is not the only one who has their eye on Skye and Skye has no idea how much trouble she is really in.

I loved this book!! I love Bull and how much he changed for Skye, with never even really knowing her, yet knowing she was it for him. He is so amazing to both Skye and Matty and really lets them both know how important they are to him throughout the book. I completely understand Skye's hesitancy towards Bull and I can only imagine how intimidating it must have been for her when she met him.

Once again the book focuses on the importance of the "family" that you surround yourself with and how you always have the people you love's backs whenever it is needed. The end brought me to tears and I love this series soooo much!!

My review of Blindsight Part Two by Adriane Leigh

I have such a love/hate relationship with this series! I absolutely love this series and I hate that I have to wait for the next installment when I am left constantly with such a cliffhanger!!

In the second book Erin discovers that Hunter knows the secret that she has been keeping from him but it turns out that Hunter knows way more about Brant than what Erin does.

Hunter needs to keep Erin safe and Erin realizes that she might be the safest with him, although that idea scares her to death!

I love the chemistry between Hunter and Erin! These two are so hot together, even with all the secrets that they both have from the other. As they start to be more honest with each other their relationship becomes even more raw and passionate.

Their is so much mystery in the book and I almost feel as if there is another set of eyes upon the whole situation that we are about to find out about. I am desperately waiting for the next book!!

I just keep thinking I wasn't in danger before I met you,” I said.

That's a lie.” His fiery eyes cut to me. “That's a lie and you fucking know it. Imagine what it would have looked like if you hadn't met me. Imagine if you would have opened the door to someone else tonight. Maybe JW would have come looking for you first, shown up some night when your husband wasn't home, because he's never home anymore, is he?” His angry greens sliced my gaze. “No, he left you to swing in the wind. Who knows what would have happened if you'd opened that door on JW's smiling face. Pepper spray won't cut it with him, babe." Hunter’s words and the memory of JW's eagle eyes chilled me through to my toes. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I sucked in cool breaths to remain calm despite the chaos that my life had descended into.

"Hunter," I said as fear choked my insides.

"And I'm sure you would have called the police, Princess, because that's your thing." He tossed me a sarcastic smile. "But that wouldn't have ended well either. JW would have taken a finger before letting you hit the first number. It's the world JW lives in, Erin. So if you want to take your chances, by all means. But when I hired you to be my PA, I as good as saved your ass. Said it before and I'll keep sayin' it 'til you believe it." He leaned in, his lips pressed to my ear and breath tickling down my neck. "I'm the best thing for you." His quiet rasp filled the hollows of my mind and caused a shudder to roll through my body.

Fear and lust became inextricably intertwined for me that day, ruining me for anyone else. He was about to bring my world shattering down around my feet in an entirely new way.

"Come here." He pulled me into the broad, hard wall of his chiseled chest and shoved a rough hand down my pants. My head tossed back and a low moan fell from my lips when the pad of his thumb made searing hot contact with my clit. His fingers dipped into the silky flesh and caressed the skin before plunging two fingers into my body.

"So fucking wet, sweetheart." His teeth tore at the flesh of my neck and my hands clutched at his biceps as my hips worked a fierce rhythm against his palm.

"Fuck," I panted and bit down on my bottom lip, desperate to contain the energy pulsing through my muscles for just a second longer.

"Strip." Hunter's eyes glazed with that fiery, passion-consumed look I loved. I pulled the shirt over my shoulders and let it drop in the dirt at my feet before his eyes darted from my lacy bra back to my eyes with a head tilt. I smiled and shimmied the straps down my arms, taking my time to tantalize him. It was working. He followed my actions like a starved lion, and before I had even slipped one arm out, Hunter had his hands behind my back and was unhooking the flimsy fabric for me. He pulled the lace off my body and raised my arms above my head, twisting the black fabric in knots around my wrists.

The soft clink of his belt came next. After that, my thoughts spun away like wild butterflies and I was reduced to only feeling. Lost were the fear and the terror and the secrets. Gone was the numbness.

I heard him.

I felt him.

I smelled him.

I yearned to reach out and trace the scars decorating his forearms with my fingertips. I wanted to feel fingernails digging into hard flesh, but instead I was caught, strung against this tree and waiting for Hunter to use me.

I sucked in a quick breath when chilled leather danced across my skin. His eyes flared with need when he stepped back. "Stay still." The soft growl hissed through the night and sent a current straight between my shifting thighs.

"Yes, sir.”

My review of Complicated Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Caitlin Aimes was once a figure skater but has since come back to the town where her brother lives and has stayed to herself and a close group of friends. She has secrets that she holds very close and runs the skating rink, which isn't open all the time.

Ron Mercer is the father of Jonathan, 19 and Kate, 12 and is a widow who is having trouble moving on. Yet he begins a casual relationship with Caitlin based on two things - sex and keeping their relationship hidden from everyone around them.

Yet, secrets aren't kept well and soon there is something in the water around town that leaves many people's lives about to change.

This was a great book in dealing with so many different family issues and keeping it all together when you really don't think you can anymore. It's also about letting people in who care about you and letting them know your secrets so they can help you through them. It's also about learning to let go of the past and that it's ok to move past all the hurt you've had whether from past relationships or the loss of someone. No one can know but you when you are ready to move on but you can't feel guilty for moving on as someone you love would never want you to be lonely.

My reviews for Sheltered Love Series

Love Unleashed by Jackie Marilla

Glenda Weber is a volunteer at the Emily Van De Walle Animal Shelter in Cedar Grove, Iowa. She is has always loved pets but her deceased husband never did so she feels guilty with owning any animals so instead she volunteers her time.

Loman Cejka has volunteered his time painting the outside of the shelter and as soon as he sees Glenda he wants to get to know her better. When Glenda is put in charge of organizing the food booth from the 4th of July Celebration Loman immediately volunteers and the two begin to spend more time together.

But both have children and want their kids approval on their relationship. Will Loman's daughter approve or try and sabotage the relationship? Will an emergency be what it takes or will it be too late?

I really enjoyed this book and that it focused on adults who are looking for second chances in love. It's funny how we go from wanting our parents approval to then needing our kids approval before moving on. The book was very realistic with the doubts and concerns we all face when starting over!

Love's Always Paws-Able by Joanne Jaytanie

Tanner Keen has been told to take a step back from his extremely busy life under doctors orders before it's too late. Looking for a change he ends up in Cedar Grove and helps at the Emily VanDeWalle Animal Shelter to see if he can help the shelter out.

Faith Daniels runs a foster home for dogs and has a great relationship with the shelter to help with the dogs.

Tanner and Faith are instantly attracted to each other and begin to get to know each other. Yet, something is going on in Cedar Grove that ends up putting both of their lives in danger. Will the two be able to get through what is ahead of them and see a future between them?

I really like that the core of this book is doing what makes you happy and not worrying about what others think. I think that is so important in today's society where we look at people's jobs as such an indication to where they are in the social ladder of life! There is also some sweet attraction between the two!!

Love Again by Angela Ford

Madison Wilson's husband, Dr.Nick Wilson, has just left her after 35 years of marriage and two kids for a younger version of her. She begins to fall into depression until a friend tells her to volunteer at the animal shelter. As she begin to volunteer she once again begins to find purpose.

Dr.Noah Felton's wife has just left him for a younger man and decides to move to Cedar Grove, Iowa to teach part-time at at local school and decides to volunteer at the local shelter as well after meeting Dr.Dan Livingstone.

Will the two find some common ground over adopting dogs and working together on a project? Will their respective daughters encourage this second chance at love?

I really enjoyed this book and although is was sad that both were left for younger versions they both really wanted a chance at real love again. They both deserved so much happiness and I really loved how realistic it was with Madi suffering from depression after the break-up. It's so important to really take an opportunity for the second chance when you get it!

Champagne and Catnip by Amanda Ward

Dr. Daniel Livingstone is 50 years old and is the head veterinarian at the Emily Van De Walle Animal Shelter in Cedar Grove, Iowa. He has had a secret crush on one of the volunteers, Caryn Fielding for quite some time but has never approached her.

Caryn Fielding has had her share of heartbreak and devastation after contracting Meniere's disease and then losing her husband shortly after. She has always kept to herself and has been referred to as a "cat lady".

When Dan asks Caryn out they discuss their pasts and realize how much they enjoy their time together. Yet Caryn has reservations due to her disability and doesn't want to rely on anyone. Will she learn to lean on Dan or will she push him away in fear of losing him?

This story doesn't focus on past relationships but on the fear of losing someone close to you. Caryn shows us the weaknesses that many of us face in starting over with the chance of losing someone we love again. Her disabilities only burden her as she doesn't want to feel like she is putting extra strain on someone. This is a great book and great series!

I watched as she sat at the cafe. She looked worried, rushed, continuing to gaze around, on edge. She should be. This was far from over and she was too fucking naïve to know better.

I sighed, hoping she’d wrap up soon so I could get on with it. I checked my watch as she sipped with a soft frown and fat tears in her eyes. Affected by another man, again. Burned by love.

A bright white loading van pulled into the spot obscuring my view of Erin. I grunted, having half a mind to run down there, pull out my nine millimeter, and tell them to get the fuck out of the way.

I groaned when two guys in uniform jumped out and began unloading a dolly and crates of fresh food before delivering it into the cafe.

Christ.” I stuck my key in the ignition to move to a better vantage point before my phone lit up, the distinct and ominous tone that pulsed irritation through my bloodstream.

Looks like you lost sight of the target.

My eyes floated at the words, my brain failing to register the meaning. The target.

What the fuck?” I hurled from the car, darting across the street as a horn blared. Ignoring it, I barreled on. Not after all this time. Not possible.

My boot hit the curb and my eyes finally landed on the table where Erin had sat.

Only this time pandemonium surrounded the scene. A woman hollering, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pointed down the street. A waiter tried to calm her, eyes darting from her crazed face and back to where her finger pointed.

Where the fuck is she?

My eyes travelled the other faces obscuring my view. I shuttled forward on heavy feet before I was close enough to see over the frenzied heads. Three waiters, a bus boy, the hostess, and a half dozen diners lingered around the small table.

She was gone.

Where the fuck is she?” I grabbed a waiter by the elbow and growled as I stepped into the suffocating circle of fear.

Sh-sh-she-she-”Erin's mother stuttered, pushing my rage to a tipping point.

I grasped the erratic woman's elbow and spun her to face me.“FBI!” I flipped my badge. “Where is Erin Warner?” I yelled, every moment of Erin’s life in the balance.

Dark eyes widened as terror fogged her features.“Taken.” Her finger shook as she pointed down the street.

Jesus, no. On my watch and right under my nose, Erin had disappeared.
