My review of Dealing with the Viscount (Improper Wives for Proper Lords #1) by Clair Brett

Ella Bowen-Thorn Renwick runs a bakery in Scotland while raising her daughter, Maddie. Yet lately Ella finds herself the victim of a blackmailing scheme that puts her in more and more danger. The blackmailers are taking all of her money and she has no clue on who is after her.

Devon, Lord Renwick, has been in mourning for the past 4 years since his wife died. Yet his best friend, Clive, Lord Breakerton, has just told him that Ella may in fact be alive.

As Devon and Clive travel to Ella they are surprised to learn the truth. When Devon realizes that Ella is hiding something he vows to discover what she is hiding. Devon wants Ella and Maddie back in his life and will do anything to prove his love to her. Yet Ella doesn't want Devon to know what she's hiding.

Will Devon and Ella be able to sort out their feelings for one another before it's too late?

I enjoyed this book and was surprised by the ending for sure.

I liked Ella and felt bad that she felt like she had to run in the first place and never realized how much Devon cared for her. Ella did work hard to establish her own business but knew she was in over her head when her business began to be sabotaged.  Ella's first priority was Maddie and she knew that she couldn't protect her own her own and therefore relied on Devon.

I thought Devon was awesome and that he really loved Ella and wanted to prove it to her. He did everything he can to keep her and Maddie safe. I loved how far he was willing to go.

This was a great historical romance.

My review of Voyeur by Vanessa Liebe

This is a collection of 5 short stories on the acts of voyeurism. These are 5 hot stories that will appeal to anyone looking for some non-traditional action that may cross some boundaries.

1) Good Neighbors

When Mandy sees her 20 year old neighbor John sunbathing she gets more than she bargained for.

This story shows how age doesn't matter when it comes to attraction.

2) Room With a View

James is in London for a work trip when he witnesses some hot action  in another hotel room. When he is invited down the next night he is in for more than he bargained for.

This is a story about never knowing what opportunities will come up when you least expect them to. I'm sure James will be back to London as soon as he can.

3) Voyeur's Initiation

Alana loves watching her neighbors through her telescope but when she takes a trip to the pool she is surprised at what she is invited to.

This story didn't end the way I thought it was going to. I thought Alana was going to end up the neighbors and really didn't expect the events at the pool.

4) Forbidden Temptation

When Megan`s parents die when she is 16 she is left with Seth Turner as her guardian. When Megan is older she remains attracted to Seth but nothing makes her happier to hear him coming to her name.

This was a fun story about mutual attraction finally getting acted upon.

5) Skinny Dip

When Adam Evans is hired to work at Eversleigh Mansion he gets more than he plans to with a skinny dipper.

The connection between Adam and Tamara is hot and I loved how she set him up.

SLOW COOKER LASAGNA

Well this could be considered an epic fail.

I wanted lasagna and the kids, well the boy, loves lasagna so I thought why not go for it in the slow cooker so it can be ready when we get home.

I did everything as it said to do but now I am wondering if different slow cookers have different temperatures or something as mine burned.

When saying burned I mean destroyed. I have no idea why but the cheese even burned and it was gross. So unfortunately I can't tell you what it even really tastes like as all we could taste was burned cheese and pasta. I had even coated all the slow cooker ahead of time with oil to make sure nothing stuck.

I have no idea where I went wrong but if you've tried one that works please send it my way or if you have any suggestions I would love that as well!!

My review of Reclamation: The Legacy Reborn: Book One by Melissa Kay Clarke

Scarlet Anderson was given a job that she didn't ask for. She lives in solitude afraid to get close to anyone so that they may discover her secret. To the world she is a bike courier but she is a savior to those who need protection. Everything she knows was left to her in a journal written by Jason Anderson, who saved her life and thus passing the "gift" onto her.

Gage Williams is a senior detective who meets Scarlet through her living at the trailer park that his parents run. His mom Macy has taken a liking to Scarlet and knows there is more to her than she lets on. As Gage gets closer to Scarlet he realizes how guarded she is and that she is hiding something.

As Gage and Scarlet begin to get closer they both realize so much is at stake. As they each get closer to the truth will they be able to work together for a happier future or will those against Scarlet get to her before Gage does?

This was a super interesting story on the battle between good and evil but done in a unique way. It is up to Scarlet to save the lives of those not ready to leave this world yet so they may do good. Scarlet had such a big job and her life was constantly at risk but she did what she could.

I felt bad for Scarlet that she had to take on so much by herself and I was super happy once everything was finally explained to her by George Bisbey. I really liked his character and how everything finally fell into place.

Gage was awesome and I liked how caring he was about Scarlet and really knew that she wouldn't do things unless necessary, such as her conflict with Valerie. I'm glad that Gage was able to discover all of the truth about Scarlet and he was able to understand the truth.

I found it surprising to see who was working against Scarlet and the second one made everything fall into place.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

My review of Violet Chain by J. Kahele

Violet Townsend catches her fiance Harrison Morgan cheating on her at their engagement party at her parents house. She has always been the perfect daughter but is now searching for her identity and trying to figure out what she wants from life. She reaches out to her oldest friend Callie to try and figure things out.

Chain Alexander is a very wealthy man who puts up outdoor malls and is used to getting what he wants from any woman. Through his best friend David, who is dating Callie, he meets Violet who right away catches his eye. David begs Chain to stay away from Violet due to her recent break up but he has a hard time staying away.

When Violet and Chain end up together will one night be enough? When Violet is clear she doesn't want Chain will he be able to convince her differently? Will Harrison give up on Violet so easily?

I enjoyed this book and found the characters really interesting.

Violet was thrown for a loop with Harrison and through the book she learned more and more things but he still wanted a second chance with her. I was shocked that he kept asking her over and over and that he wouldn't accept her no. Violet wanted to be free yet enjoyed her time with Chain and what they had together yet she didn't want to get back into a relationship.

Chain was funny as he had never felt this way before with a woman and was so confused that Violet was turning him down. He really loved her and would do anything to keep her safe. He wants to abide by her rules but it is driving him crazy that she won't fully commit.

Philip was such an ass and I was surprised that both David and Chain were friends with him. He definitely terrified me and I don't know if anyone can stop where he's headed.

The end was a total cliffhanger and I am crossing my fingers everything turns out ok!

THE ORDER OF THE CRIMSON LOTUS

My review of Rakes in Tartan by Suz De Mello

Torquil Kilburn and Andrew MacReiver are best friends from Scotland that have come to London in search of wives for their manors back home. But both Tor and Andrew have secrets within their family backgrounds that they wish to keep quiet from those at the top of London's society.

Huldra Ragnarsdatter, her mother Dagmar, and brother Nikolas have just arrived from Norway in hopes of finding a suitable husband for Huldra after a disastrous ended engagement with Georg Frederiksson.

With societal clashes and balls Tor and Huldra begin to get close but will his charm and forward ways hurt Huldra's chances to fit in with society? When Andrew puts his own moves on Dagmar will they be a perfect fit for each other?

When people are found dead with their blood drained is their a link to vampires or is their something more dangerous out there that is out to right a personal wrong?

I liked this book but found it started off slow and I was confused for awhile during the beginning as well.

Initially I thought for some reason that Nikolas was Huldra's uncle as I thought it was Dagmar's brother and not Huldra's. Eventually I did realize my own mistake.

I was also a little confused on the relation that both Tor and Andrew had with vampires. I didn't realize that you could have vampire blood in you and not be a vampire. I think that the author almost went into too much of having "paranormal" bits and pieces into the characters that it took a way from the story as I was focusing on certain elements of the story and missing other things.

I liked the innocence of Huldra and her search for her perfect husband although it ended pretty fast. I thought it was amusing the unknown battles that she had with Lady Caroline Marks who had her own sights on Tor.

The relationship between Andrew and Dagmar was hot and I thought it was amusing the differences between Dagmar and Huldra. I definitely wasn't expecting the twist with Dagmar as I thought it was going to be something else!

I thought both Tor and Andrew were interesting although I was definitely confused with what they each were. I was sad when they lost Murdo as he was definitely innocent in everything.

Interesting story but I found it almost tried to appeal to too many genres and got a little lost.

HEY THERE! I'm Julia Mills. It's great to meet you! I've been incredibly blessed to become the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of the Dragon Guard Series. I'm a sometimes sarcastic, always southern woman that would rather spend all day laughing than a minute crying. I have two of the most amazing daughters ever created, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading. I decided to write the stories running through my brain and I have to admit I'm having an absolute blast!! I read her first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat at four years old and have been hooked ever since.
I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down. I know for a fact that all heroes in all the books I have ever read or will ever write will always pale in comparison to my hero, my dad! I'm a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex mixed with a huge dose of romance.
I'm still working on my own story but I can guarantee you that it'll contain as much love and laughter as I can cram into it!!!!!

My review of Bending Fate: Prequel to Carnal Whispers: Mind Stalker by Reily Garrett

Dani works in a veterinary clinic for Dr. Caraici but also has some DNA differences that many people would love to get their hands on.

Her goal is to get Callie rescued and back to Jake but it is clear that someone has betrayed Jake and their group.

Will Dani be able to get help for herself and Callie before she is taken?

I read this book after Carnal Whispers and I wish I had read this one first. Although it is short it definitely explains some things that seemed to be missing in the first book.

I really like Dani and I think this book really shows how big her heart is and how she wants to keep people safe and out of dangerous hands!

Great introduction to Carnal Whispers!

My review of Shafted: A Devil's Blaze MC Story by Jordan Marie

Jax "Shaft" is 40 years old and has recently become a member of the Devil's Blaze MC. No girl has ever got his interest until she walks into the club one day.

Aubree Davis is 18 years old and the granddaughter of Tucker, the President of rival club Chrome Saints. She has not had an easy time growing up as Viper's daughter and feels much older than her 18 years. She wants what her aunts Beth and Katie have - husbands and kids. When her attention goes to an older man she is hooked.

Yet Jax and Bree have so much going against them, most importantly her age, but the two can't seem to stay away from each other. But what will the cost be when there is a chance that their clubs might be headed to war?

This book is hot and sucks you in right from the first page right until the end!

I was unsure initially about the huge age difference but when I saw how protective Jax was over Bree right from the beginning I started rooting for him. I loved how he had set in his mind what was allowed between the two of them until his jealousy took over and changed everything.

I think Bree was right in saying that she didn't grow up the traditional way and therefore felt much older than her 18 years. She had been taking care of herself for so long that she truly never felt like  a child and felt more comfortable around adults. She is so aware of what is going around her and is not scared to take on those around her when they hurt those she cares about, like Beast.

The scenes between Bree and Jax are hot and although the nickname Jax gave himself kind of creeps me out I was still good with everything that happened with them.

The whole problems with the MC clubs was huge and I was definitely sad about the losses that happened. I wasn't surprised with the ending and I really hope that this means we will get a set of books on the Chrome Saints!!

I am really looking forward to seeing what happens with Beast next as he deserves so much more than how he is treated and for how much he has lost in the past.

I love these books and I loved that we got a visit from some past characters that we haven't seen in awhile!

CREAMY CAPRESE PASTA

Sometimes a meal sounds so good but ends up being a little bit of a fail and that was definitely this meal.

So the kids really didn't like how this one turned out at all and trying to get them to eat it took forever with multiple bribes.

There was a few things that I had trouble with in regards to the recipe that I would change for next time. The first was that in all honesty I found that the flavour of the pasta was lacking. There was not enough flavour for the amount of pasta that it cooked. I would definitely add a bit more of something. The basil definitely improved the flavour of the pasta and I would throw some dried in there as well. The other problem that I had was that I could not find any mini mozzarella balls at the store so the only choice I had was marinated larger mozzarella balls that I cut.

I think that with work I could definitely make this into a meal that the kids would enjoy!

Here is the link to the original recipe: http://www.giverecipe.com/creamy-caprese-pasta/

Ever wondered about the personalities behind your favorite books? Victoria Danann's new podcast with Riley J. Ford has an incredible lineup of authors booked through January. No question is out of bounds. Check it out!

THIS WEEK'S BEST SELLING AUTHOR...
TERESA GABELMAN!

Teresa Gabelman is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the ‘Protectors Series’, Lee County Wolves Series and Rodeo Romance (Contemporary). When not writing about alpha vampires, sexy shifters, hot cowboys and the women who drive them crazy she can be found on a lake with a fishing pole/Kindle, at a MMA event or spending a fun evening with family.

Being a full-time writer has allowed Teresa to connect more with readers which is what she loves most about writing. If you find the time she would love to hear from you!

My review of Angel to the Rescue by Petie McCarty

Dr. Rachel Kelly is a child psychologist who is in the middle of dealing with her own issues when her best friend, middle school guidance counselor Jillian Henry, asks her to take on 3 new clients. All three cases are unique and each child needs Rachel's help in their own way.

Emily Miles is struggling on how to deal with her mother's new boyfriend, Stanley Nolan, and his unwanted advances. Jay Elledge is dealing with an abusive father and is trying to protect his younger brother Will. Alex Gerber is the youngest at 5 and he sees angels and they keep him safe.

As Rachel struggles to deal with her own issues surrounding her recent split with police negotiator Lt. Jake Dillon and secrets she kept to herself. When she finds herself in a crisis while at a Christmas party with her three new clients will she turn to Jake for assistance and will he be able to save them from the man with the gun? Will Alex's angels be able to keep them all safe?

This book was not at all what I thought it was going to be like and I was really taken in for an emotional read that really makes you think about angels in our lives. I am not a religious person but I do believe in angels and I really think that this book doesn't preach but makes you really think.

The book deals with so many difficult issues and I really think that the book shows that we need advocates such as Jillian and Rachel out there for the kids that need it the most.

I liked Rachel but wish she could have just been honest with Jake in the first place about everything that was going on with her. It was sad that the two loved each other so much but each would make mistakes that would push the other away. Yet her love for kids and helping them was so incredible and I really wish that there were more people out there like her that were in their profession for the love of kids and not for the money.

Jake was so torn as his actions said one thing but his heart said another. He was tired of being hurt but his actions caused so much of the pain. He knew he wanted Rachel but couldn't understand why she no longer wanted kids with him and instead of giving her a chance to explain he pushed her away. Yet there is still nothing he wouldn't do to protect her.

There were a few things I had figured out ahead of time - like with Wally but others surprised me.

Such a great read and a positive message about those that are there to protect us without us being aware of it.

My review of SPY GAME: Romantic Suspense by Suz deMello

Ani Sharif is a U.S.S.A Agent and about to go undercover for the very first time. She is trying to discover who is selling software to the Chinese and her mission is to gain the trust of Richard Rexford of Rexford Corp. Ani needs to get close enough to Richard to get access to his personal computer and discover if he is the traitor.

Richard Rexford hires Ani and is immediately attracted to the feisty attitude of Ani. When Richard enters a bet with his cousin Mark Rexford and fellow co-worker Kevin he has no idea what he is really getting into.

As Ani gets closer to the truth she continues to work with her "sister" and fellow agent Linda Wing who soon needs her assistance.

Will Ani be able to discover the truth in time?

I liked the concept of the book but unfortunately it didn't quite come out the way I had hoped it would. I had figured out who the "spy" was early on and wasn't surprised when everything came out. I also found that there was almost too much going on in the book with Linda and her sub-story that it took away from the story we were there to read.

I liked Ani and found it funny that she was worried about getting intimate with Richard as she had limited experience but still managed to have sex with him soon into "dating". Ani was worried about being pulled from the job by her boss, Lewis Anglesey, so she was doing to do whatever it took to remain on the job. Ani was a computer wiz but you still never got a real appreciation of how talented she was as it was almost overlooked. I thought maybe someone else was actually doing the work for her as it never talked about her actually working.

I liked Richard but definitely found him too trusting. He really did care about Ani and wanted to be with her.

I think there was just too much going on in the story but certain parts were lacking detail.

My review of The Guardian by Jacquie Biggar

Lucas Carmichael, Scott Anderson and Natalya Anderson are involved in a horrific car accident when Lucas ends up crashing into a family when he crosses over the center line. Scott is the only survivor from the car he is in and in the other car the driver and his wife's unborn baby do not survive.

As Lucas ends up in "transition" he is sent back as an angel to make something of his life and do right. Yet he is partnered up with a man bent on some vengeance. As Lucas struggles with doing the right thing he definitely has his work cut out for him.

Scott struggles with the guilt of surviving and meets the medical examiner, Tracy York, who may be under some danger herself.

Soon Scott and Tracy realize they are in danger themselves and with the help of an angel they may just make it out ok but who will help the angel?

This was definitely an interesting read although I must admit I was mad at the end (sorry can't spoil it)!

I think we start off thinking one way about Lucas and Scott and then we gradually come around when we learn more about them and the situation they were in.

I liked Scott and how he really was trying to turn his life around in the book as he knew it hadn't gotten out of hand from what he had wanted. Lucas was a bit more confusing as I thought at times he was changing and then he would make a mistake that made me wonder but he ultimately made some sacrifices for sure.

Tracy was a great person who found out the truth that wasn't supposed to get out and was therefore was wanted silenced. Her scenes with Dustin were great and it'll be interesting to see if they remain friendly if the series continues.

I could understand the pain that Mike was in but I really was frustrated that he didn't learn the truth about what happened the night of the car accident and he was also not present when everything went down with Ray. I'm definitely worried about where his actions may lead him in future books.

Hopefully the author keeps this series up!

Bourbon Cocktail Meatballs

My daughter was at a field lacrosse jamboree the other weekend and we were tailgating for lunch. One of the parents brought meatballs in their slow cooker and it really got me craving meatballs. It's not something we have often but I really do enjoy them and I have no idea why we don't have them more as both kids enjoy them and they are so easy.

Well as I was having company I decided to "adult" them up a little and found this recipe which got me super excited as Bourbon is one of my favorite alcohols to cook with. I love the smell of bourbon and the unique taste of it.

This was so easy to make and my daughter was in charge of it. We used a prime rib meatball and it was so good and the sauce was absolutely awesome. I would definitely make these again as it is easy and delicious!

You can find the recipe here: http://authenticsuburbangourmet.blogspot.ca/2012/11/friday-night-bites-bourbon-cocktail.html

My review of Paladine by Kenneth Eade

Robert Garcia was a special teams assassin until he retired and became an assassin for hire. When he is approached by Bryce Williamson who has created the John Williamson Foundation to Fight Terrorism he doesn't realize how much his life is going to be turned upside down.

Bryce's son John was killed in a terrorist attack and now he wants these terrorists that are residing within the US to be killed and gives Robert that job. Unfortunately for Robert not everyone is as pleased with the "Paladine" ghost that is killing these terrorists.

Will Robert be able to go undetected or will the detectives investigating these murders get their man?

This was a super interesting read and I loved all the conflicted thoughts on Paladine. While no one likes the law being taken into an individuals hands it is tough not be happy when the people being killed have killed many innocent people.

I loved how Robert himself had issues on attachment and part of him really wanted a "normal" life yet his job didn't allow that at all. It was interesting to watch how Robert did all his surveillance and learned so much about who he was going after next.

I understood the frustration of Det. Joshua Maynard as he was putting so much effort into the case with trying to solve it and he couldn't understand why more people weren't helping him.

This was a great and interesting read and I look forward to more in the future by this author!
