Happy Canada Day!!

Wishing everyone a very happy Canada Day! Although this year we will all be celebrating differently than many years before with having to be more aware of our surroundings with Covid-19, it is still a time to celebrate our country!

I have always been proud to be Canadian and we are lucky to have our numbers relatively low and I am proud of all the Canadians, especially in my province of British Columbia, for respecting the guidelines set out for us to keep us all safe.

Hopefully this is close to the end and we can attempt to find the new normal in our lives and do so with care for our communities and provide a safe environment for everyone to live peacefully together.

However you celebrate this Canada Day I hope you do so with your family beside you and have a wonderful and safe celebration!

My love of Essential Oils

I have been using essential oils for as long as I can remember. In Canada there is a company called Escents that started in 1992 and I began buying from them probably about 5 years after that. I loved that I had chosen a Canadian company and at the time there wasn't much else out there. I bought their rollers and their oils and generally bought oil blends but sometimes I would buy a single oil if I knew that it was something that I loved the smell of. Sometimes I would diffuse oils very often but then I would forget but used the rollers a lot.

When Mikaela was in her 2nd year of PeeWee hockey, a became close friends with our goalie Kyle's mom, DeAnna. She would have oil rollers with her all of the time and we began talking about them all of the time. Soon I began buying an oil here and there from her when I could afford them and when I had an issue, example not sleeping well or stressed out a lot.

Now DeAnna had moved to Alberta and I am still in BC but she would ship me the oils and answered any questions I had. Finally she said to me that it was a better financial investment if I just bought the starter kit from Young Living so I could get a whole bunch of oils and be able to make rollers myself. I made the big purchase and it has been one of the best investments!!

I love turning to oils and making the rollers that we need for whatever we are going through. I am going through the oils and I love diffusing different combinations depending on what I need at the moment. I also love being prepared for what the kids may go through as well. We made some seasonal rollers which have come in so handy this year as cottonwood is awful here. I also constantly use thieves in a roller by itself every night on my feet and also in an immunity roller for when I am not feeling 100%.

The best part is that I feel safe with these oils and my kids always turn to oils first instead of popping a pill. My daughter had a headache and made herself her own roller and said it made her feel much better.

Young Living is seed to seal which means that they control each of their fields and pay proper wages and are in control of all of their plants every step of the way. For me that is so important as I know I am getting exactly what I pay for. I notice a huge difference between these oils and ones that you can buy from a local market that are much cheaper.

If you are interested in oils for yourself or have any questions at all please feel free to message me so I can give you a hand!! I love knowing my family is safe with all of their products and that we are protecting ourselves a little more in a scary world!!

Thank you and stay safe!!

A Crazy World

At the beginning of the year I never heard much about Covid-19 but I rarely ever have time to have the news on. Mikaela was playing hockey and was on two field lacrosse teams while Brendan was on two different field lacrosse teams. In January we went down to Palm Springs for both kids to compete in Sand Storm, a huge lacrosse tournament and we had a great time!

The first weekend in March, Mikaela and I headed down to Las Vegas to compete in another lacrosse tournament. This was the beginning of the big worry about Covid-19 but our team felt good about going down and really had a blast and won the tournament. We saw some people wearing masks but in Vegas itself we saw nothing to imply that anything was going on.

Four days after we returned things began to escalate and from then on if you left the country you would have to go into quarantine for 14 days. Luckily we just missed the cut off and we all felt fine and continued on.

Then things began to get absolutely crazy. I am a cashier in a grocery store and I usually work about 15-20 hours a week while the kids are at school but the first week after the word quarantine was mentioned I ended up with 44 hours. The next week was close to the same and we began losing staff members who were afraid to work. It was nuts and nothing I ever want to experience again. We were all running ragged and getting yelled at by the customers as we began to limit everything so that we could get food to as many people as possible. It was the most difficult situation to ever work in but those of us remaining did what we could to support each other and help one another mentally.

At this time I was also having to read and get books reviewed as well and I began to fall behind as I just couldn't keep my eyes open at night. I was so exhausted and felt like I was barely holding on as I would come home from work and then make sure to cook dinner for the kids and try to get any housework done that I could. My house is still a disaster and I have no idea when it will be clean again.

As work began to calm down my work week averages close to 30 hours but now I am throwing home schooling on top of it. We have done our best and there are times that I know Bren may not be getting it all done but we are really trying. My blog has definitely suffered and I feel bad every time I review a book late which still happens depending upon my work week and level of exhaustion. My legs are so swollen from standing on them all day and I look forward to being able to see my ankles again one day!

The kids are each dealing with it differently. Bren seems to be content to play on his x-box all the time and not do much else although sometimes he will help me with cooking or dishes. Mik is definitely missing her friends and her sports. She has felt much more overwhelmed with school work and all of the assignments she has in grade 9.

We are all trying our best during these trying times and the one thing that is apparent is that we all need to be so kind and patient during these times!

To the authors I have been late on I apologize so much as I never anticipated anything like this ever happening!!

Stay safe!!
