My review of The Romantic Pact by Meghan Quinn

Crew Smith is a quarterback at Braxton College and is coming off his worst season ever after the unexpected death of his grandfather made him lose complete mental focus. Now his grandfather, Pops, has given him a letter where he wants him to go to Germany and go to places where he went years ago as a way of finding himself again.

Also on the trip with him is his former best friend from the farm, Hazel Allen who he hasn't spoken to in three years. Although he is excited to see her, he wonders what Pops was planning and has in store for the two of them.

Will Crew be able to sort out how he feels about where his life is headed and will he be able to figure out why Pops sent Hazel with him?

This was such a great book filled with so many little moments that really make me want to go to Germany!!

I liked Crew and understood why he was so confused and upset when he found out how much was hidden from him about his Pop's health. I think I would have been just as upset as Crew missed out on so much time with him, although Pop had wanted Crew to focus on football. I also understood why Crew was a little torn with football as he seemed torn but he had grown up wanting nothing and had been seen as a bit of a football god.

Hazel Allen grew up on the other side of the US as Crew and in totally different circumstances. Her home life wasn't that good but she loved the time she spent on the farm with Pops and her own grandpa. Every summer Crew would come out and the two would spend it together until one summer Crew stopped coming and not talking to Hazel anymore.

I was so impressed at how much detail was found in all of the letters that Pop sent about all of the stops on the trip. Each letter that Pops wrote was in great detail about what he wanted Crew and Hazel to explore and how he felt on each part of his own journey. These letters were so awesome and I felt like they put me there as well.

There was obviously a bond between Hazel and Crew and there was a lot from the past that was revealed through the story. Pops was pushing the two of them together in a way but there was still so much in the way for both Crew and Hazel.

I truly loved the journey that Crew and Hazel were on and I loved how they got closer and began to learn more about each other again. The two slowly began to cross a line but there was so much at stake with Hazel wanting to be on the farm and Crew focusing on football.

When the two returned back to the farm everything went completely sideways and I wasn't sure which one I felt more sorry for. Hazel felt like she needed the farm and all of it's memories whereas Crew had his future with football and didn't want to be tied down to the farm. My heart really broke with the stipulations of Pop's will and although I thought I knew what was going to happen, I really wasn't 100% sure.

The end definitely had me worried for awhile but luckily Pops had anticipated some rough patches and was prepared!

The very end was awesome and I was definitely happy with how it all turned out!!!
