Noah Reid has been in love with his best friend, Katie Walker since he was 15 years old but never had the courage to do anything about it. He watched as his cousin Gabe moved into town and swept in to take Katie for himself and the two were married. When he catches Gabe cheating on a pregnant Katie the two fight and Noah is charged with Gabe's murder.
Now 10 years later Noah wants to get back his friendship with Katie but having ignored her letters and requests to see him, it won't be easy for Noah to get her to forgive him. It's also not going to be easy for Noah to find acceptance in a town that hasn't forgotten what happened.
This is such an amazing beginning and I didn't want it to end!!!
I felt absolutely horrible for Noah as he never wanted to hurt Gabe but Gabe had been drinking and he was defending himself when the unspeakable happened. I did understand why he felt that he needed to not talk to Katie while he was in jail as he felt horrible for the events that had taken place and blamed himself so much!
At the same time I got why Katie was so mad that Noah didn't speak to her while he was in jail as she lost her husband and also her best friend. She now had to juggle being a single mom to Owen while also renovating the house she bought for the two of them. She is lucky that Owen has remained very close to Gabe's parents and she is grateful for everything they have done for her.
I was hoping that Noah would get a chance to talk to Katie but I knew it wasn't going to be easy after she slammed the door in his face the first time.
I hated how Noah began to be targeted as was anyone associated with him and he really wanted to leave town but I was happy that he stuck it out. I had a couple of guesses on who was behind it but we'll have to see how it pans out.
I loved when Katie took Noah in and how the two slowly opened up about the past and it allowed both of their hearts to heal. They were finally honest and it allowed them to move forward.
I have a guess about Brittany and her interest in everything and I am crossing my fingers that I am right with my guess but that will have to wait until the next book!
The end was absolutely heartbreaking but I am glad that there is a second book so I know certain things aren't over yet!!
