My review of The Lies We Tell Ourselves by Michelle Heard

Reece Nicolson is afraid of her boyfriend Clay Roberts and is quietly biding her time until she can escape with her mother to a place of her own. Clay was once her best friend but has now turned to manufacturing and distributing drugs which has changed him into a dangerous man. Now he has hired her a bodyguard which decreases her ability to escape.

Alec Taylor is a police officer who is working undercover to bring down Clay Roberts. He knows he needs to gain Clay's trust and does so but now is watching over Reece.

Will Reece and Alec be able to find allies in each other or will the distrust in each other allow Clay to get the upper hand?

This is another great book in the series and these "heroes" keep getting better!

My heart was broken for Reece and the relationship she found herself in. I felt terrible that so much had changed with Clay but she felt like she couldn't escape due to the condition that her mom was in and she also felt guilty for all of the support that Clay had given her. I was a little frustrated with her for not seeing things earlier on but I think it was because she was so overwhelmed with trying to take care of her mom.

Alec was awesome and I knew which side he was on but he was treading a fine line with trying to discover how much Reece knew and was part of. I liked when he defended her with Clay and the two of them were able to discover where their loyalties lay.

I loved when Reece finally did the right thing and called Wyatt and I knew things would be a little better then but I had no idea about how powerful Clay was and who he was working with and I was totally shocked at what was revealed!!

Towards the end things got super tense and I was freaking out for sure but I knew the hero would save the day!!

The end was so great and I loved the dance!!

Looking forward to the next book!

4.5 Stars
